The weather has cooled off, and that means that fall festivals are popping up all over Columbia. The area offers many opportunities to connect with friends and explore the city. Arts, crafts, music, food, games, and family fun will all be offered this year at a variety of outdoor gatherings.
The 31st Annual Columbia Greek Festival invites you to “be Greek for a week” during September 14th – 17th. This cultural gathering will include music, contests, food and drink, and a little history along the way. For veggie lovers, the 44th Annual Irmo Okra Strut Festival starts on September 29th and ends September 30th, bringing music, games, and of course okra to attendees. September 30th, celebrate Oktoberfest with Soda City, providing two biergartens, food, and shopping. For those clinging to the last days of summer, the 2nd Annual Doko Fest Bluegrass Music Festival in Blythewood takes place on September 16th at Doko Meadows Park and features the sounds of Deeper Shade of Blue, The BunchQuitters, and the Synder Family Band.
Columbia has several planned gatherings throughout the year as well, including the City Roots Farmers Market every Thursday from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM, and the Soda Market Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Or, visit the 1200 block to the 1700 block of downtown to take part in the First Thursday on Main event, a mix of activities, entertainment, and specials from participating businesses.
If art and museums are of interest, Columbia has quite a few providing world class exhibits during the fall. Columbia Museum of Art’s latest exhibit is the “groovy” That 70’s Show: Cool Art from the Collection. South Carolina State Museum not only boasts four floors of art and history, but current exhibits include South Carolina’s First Astronaut Charles Duke and the Apollo Missions, Savage Ancient Seas: Prehistoric Predators, and South Carolina and the Great War.
Columbia, in addition to natural beauty and year-round adventures, is especially entertaining in the fall. Explore everything this unique city has to offer.
