With a rare combination of beautiful natural scenery, top of the line schools, fascinating historical landmarks, world renowned dining, and electrifying entertainment, Columbia is one of the finest places to live. What makes it even more extraordinary are the events and festivals celebrating life and culture in this great city. This summer, many of Columbia’s attractions just minutes from Congaree Bluff offer a multitude of special events to kick-start the warm weather season.
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden provides many family friendly activities. Twilight in the Garden returns to on select Friday nights, showing family-friendly movies beginning at dusk on the big screen. Don’t miss their Firefly Festival for Families at the end of June, or a Girl Scout overnight camping trip.
The Edventure Children’s Museum and Columbia Museum of Art presents many camps and classes this summer for a wide range of ages. In addition, Edventure Children’s Museum hosts Blooming Butterflies, Exhibit Storytime, and Shake, Rattle & Read throughout June and July.
For music lovers, catch the Summer Concert Series in Finlay Park, featuring a variety of local and national recording artists, or the Southern Guitar Festival and Competition, an annual musical event that brings world-caliber musicians to the city. The Music Farm, a full-service concert venue, produces over two hundred events per year, from rock to bluegrass, and will have several concerts this summer.
Everyone loves a fun festival, and the Columbia area offers several throughout the season. On June 24th, Leeza Gibbons’ Dare2Care Fair is creating a kindness and caring movement showcasing a connection to each other. In July, the Zero Gravity Annual Summer Festival features live music, entertainment, food, a bounce house, slip-n-slide, and other kid friendly games. August brings The Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival, celebrating locally grown food, the people who produce it, the restaurants that place it on their menus, and the people who eat it.
While Congaree Bluff is just steps away from kayaking, hiking, fishing, and picnicking, everyone loves to explore their city sometimes. In addition to the shopping, dining, recreational activities, and special events, take some time this summer to check out everything Columbia has to offer.
